RHATH - ORBITS || Album
This album for me is a culmination of a lot, from the strange year that was 2020 to the huge amount of personal growth I’ve gone through thanks to some big changes in my life. The year I made this album I co-created a hip-hop collective with several other artists here in Melbourne and through working with the likes of Emkew, Amutha, Dilly Dave & ConnR, I believe I found my feet to create this album. This is a dark, cinematic and diverse project and has come as a direct response to the chaos and forced introspection of the year 2020.
This project is entirely self produced and I took a lot of inspiration from an eclectic range of hip-hop legends such as Run the Jewels, Jpegmafia, R.A.P Ferreira and Gorillaz. I was very fortunate to be allowed to sample some incredible local jazz bands as well to add some new depth and range to my production. This album ranges from bombastic tracks full of blaring synths and loud drum patterns to laid back songs using the excellent jazz samples as I tried to channel acts like Digable Planets.
I hope you enjoy this album and get as much out of it as I did making it. I’m very excited to start the next project and to keep building and working with this community driven hip-hop scene of Melbourne.
