Tabletop Blog 7 - Life is Weathering

Got a little tabletop update today based around an experiment. Using watercolour paint on miniatures!

Now this isn't my idea, I saw it on Eons of Battle first and then Adam Savage using watercolour to weather items. That got me thinking, that I could use them on top of my base coats to create depth and natural looking colour blending.

So I painted the base coat as I would, a couple of highlights and then start slapping on watercolour paint. It's a great way of adding some interesting transitions, going from blues to pinks and having them naturally mix together.

Where I really like it, is on the wood and metal. Adding subtle greens and oranges to metal and wood brings a natural weathering that I think I would struggle to achieve using normal miniature paint.

Overall, the model leaves some to be desired but I learnt some great new techniques here. My models definitely are going to cop a lot more weathering from here on out.

That's all for now. Catch ya
